J.W. Stannard Windchimes
Incomparable Sound:
Each bell is individually hand-tuned to ensure that every chime plays exactly the notes listed. Protective nylon grommets are available on most chimes to minimize each cord's contact with each bell, increasing cord life by 700% and producing a clearer, cleaner sound. The soft wood clapper ensures that you hear just the musical sounds without the harsh "clanking" of wood striking metal. Chimes are hung so that each chime is struck in the precise location to achieve the desired sound. The musical notes played by the chime are laser-engraved on the hard wood wind catcher.
Convenience:
Removable hangers slip out to wrap around tree branches or any closed support. Diamond Line(tm), the indestructible fiber used to tether satellites, holds most of the Stannard chimes together. Magnetic clappers can "turn off" your chimes. Just slide the clapper up and it will stick to the top of the frame. Available on most chimes.
Durable Quality:
Each bell is made of a specially developed metal alloy that will maintain the chime's perfect pitch and never rust. The tops and wind catchers are made from weather-resistant hard woods, and hand-rubbed with three coats of marine varnish to preserve their natural luster.
Product Materials
-
Alabastrite: a stone-based material that can be intricately molded, producing great detail and will allow paint to adhere. Items can be cleaned by dusting; however, they should not be washed with water as soluable paints are used.
-
Patchwork Items: Unique fabric or paper prints are applied to the surface of porcelain, dolomite or polyresin items. After application, twelve layers of lacquer are added and the item is hand polished to a high gloss between each layer.
-
Porcelain: Fine ground white clay, molded and fired in an oven for eight hours at 1,200 degrees. Products are painted with a glaze for a high gloss finish; an underglaze for a matte finish; or a bisque finish, which is a matte finish without glaze, and then fired again for six hours at 800 degrees.
-
Bone China: White clay mixed with bone ash. Bone ash content must be at least 25% by U.S. guidelines. The product is fired at 1,800 degrees. The translucent material is finished with a glaze or underglass (matte); it is lighter, stronger and more expensive than porcelain.
-
Jade Porcelain: This is a type of porcelain is made with a finer clay than porcelain. Usually no glaze, or a colorless glaze, is applied at the final firing to show off the very smooth surface and to preserve the translucency of the item. An example of this is the high degree of translucency in a night light when lit.
-
Stoneware: White clay mixed with fine ground stone. Working with stoneware demands great expertise and is, in fact, becoming a lost art. Stoneware is safe to use in the microwave or a conventional oven.
