Why does my chihuahua chew wooden clothes pins?

I just got a 6 year old retired breeder chihuahua and she seems to be fond of the wooden clip clothes pins we use on various products around the house to keep them closed. (we use them as chip clips) Anyway, she has started finding and running off with them to chew on. Why is she doing this and what can I do to stop her?
Thanks- I do remove it from her when I catch her. So far, I have been lucky they haven't gotten to the splinter stage... just a little chewed.

Mine does too !. My Chi is 7 years old and has really enjoyed discovering all the things she can get into in the house.after a life time in a cage. I thing they like the clothes pins because of the chip residue on your fingers when you close the bag back up and the soft wood of the clothes pin absorbs the oil, salt, etc and becomes a tasty treat. I started using these metal binder clips we use at work to fasten things together. You can buy them at WalMart and are impervious to even large dogs. The wood splinters may make your dog's rectum bleed when she passes them.
